Northline Design project

Nomad Trailers

Building a website around the business, not the products.

Nomad Trailers designs and builds premium expedition trailers for people who love adventure. The challenge was not simply to make the website look more modern, but to create a digital experience that reflected the quality of the business behind it.

The challenge

The website was not reflecting the business.

Nomad approached Northline after a frustrating experience with their previous web designer. Broken links, unclear user journeys and an inconsistent experience meant the website no longer represented the quality of the brand. Visitors were not engaging in the way the business expected, and the website had become more of a frustration than a business asset.

The goal was not just to redesign the website. It was to rebuild confidence in the brand online.

Discovery before design

We started with the business, not the website.

Before any code was written, the project began with a discovery conversation about Nomad's customers, sales model, future plans and the opening of a new showroom. Those conversations established the principles that would guide every later decision.

01

Premium without apology

Nomad's trailers are not cheap, and the brand does not need to apologise for that. The website needed to communicate quality, confidence and value.

02

British and locally supplied

Nomad is proud to be a British business using local suppliers. That sense of provenance needed to feel present without becoming forced.

03

Built to support real sales

The website needed to encourage showroom visits, informed enquiries and genuine engagement with the trailers.

Visual storytelling

Making exceptional assets impossible to miss.

Nomad, TentBox and Buffalo Systems already had exceptional photography and video. The problem was not a lack of content. It was that the existing website made the strongest assets difficult to find.

More than 1,000 images and videos were reviewed and reduced to around 50 carefully selected assets. For this brand, the imagery carries much of the story, presenting the trailers in an almost cinematic and luxurious light.

The hardest part was not finding enough imagery. It was deciding which 50 assets told the clearest story.

Key decision 01

Adding more functionality was making the website less useful.

The original plan included e-commerce for the TentBox and Buffalo Systems ranges. Together, those ranges covered well over 100 products. The number of products was manageable, but the growing catalogue was beginning to distract from Nomad's main business goal: bringing customers into the showrooms to experience and buy the trailers.

The stronger decision was to remove full e-commerce, display a carefully chosen selection of supporting products and return the trailers to the centre of the experience.

The site became clearer by becoming smaller.

Key decision 02

Giving visitors a reason to participate.

A beautiful website can still be passive. The Build Your Rig configurator was designed to give visitors something meaningful to do while also supporting the sales process.

Visitors can explore combinations of trailer, TentBox and compatible accessories while seeing an indicative price. This helps prospective customers decide whether the investment is right for them before making contact, while giving Nomad more informed and potentially more valuable enquiries.

The configurator does not replace a conversation. It makes the eventual conversation more useful.

Key decision 03

Turning showroom interest into a clear next step.

With Nomad expanding to two locations, the website needed to make it easy for visitors to understand where they could see the trailers and how to arrange a visit.

The booking journey was designed around the real structure of the business, with clear separation between Lincoln and Holmfirth and direct routes into the appropriate booking experience.

Selected decisions

Five decisions that shaped the project

  1. 01

    Discovery before design

The website was shaped around the business model, customers and showroom strategy before any layouts were created.

  2. 02

    Lead with the trailers

Supporting brands were important, but the trailers remained the reason the website exists.

  3. 03

    Remove full e-commerce

A smaller product selection created a clearer path towards showroom visits and enquiries.

  4. 04

    Build interaction with purpose

The configurator gives visitors something useful to do and helps qualify future leads.

  5. 05

    Curate rather than overwhelm

More than 1,000 visual assets were reduced to around 50 that best communicated the brand.

Outcome

A website designed to become a business asset.

The finished website gives Nomad a platform that better reflects the quality of its products and the ambition of the business. Every major decision was tested against the original goals: make the trailers the focus, build confidence in the brand and help visitors take a meaningful next step.

The result is not simply a more polished website. It is a clearer sales and marketing platform that Nomad can continue to build on as the business grows.

Northline reflection

What the project reinforced for Northline.

The best websites are not built by adding every possible feature. They are built by understanding what matters most to the business and removing what distracts from it.

Northline's role is not simply to take away the hassle of web design. It is to work closely with a business owner and use technology to create something the business did not previously have: a clearer customer journey, a stronger sales tool or a new capability that can continue to create value.
